1. SEMESTER 2 TIMETABLES
Students received their Semester 2 timetables in the weeks leading up to exams and have been able to visit Student Services on multiple occasions over the last two weeks to make changes. With a few exceptions for students on waitlists, all voluntary changes we were able to accommodate have been completed and timetables are considered finalized. If you have any questions or concerns about your students’ schedule, please feel free to email or call Ms. Brown in Student Services.

2. COURSE SELECTIONS FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR
Course selection sessions will occur for all current grade 9-11 students during the first two weeks of February. In preparation for the course selection process, Ms. Brown met with all grade 10 and 11 students in December to discuss course selection options and pathway expectations so that students could arrange appointments in January to discuss their choices. An email was also sent home to all grade 10 and 11 students and families with information about post-secondary pathway planning. Parents and students are encouraged to review both that email and the course calendar found on our website carefully in advance February’s course selection sessions to prepare. Please pay particular attention to diploma requirements and pathway descriptions so that students make the best possible choices for themselves next year.
When Ms. Brown meets with classes Feb. 5-14th, she will guide students through the course selection considerations and the MyBlueprint process. Students and parents may also make appointments to meet with Ms. Brown if questions or concerns arise. Ms. Brown’s email is [email protected] . The absolute deadline for submitting course selections is February 21st, unless an extension is approved.
Grade 12 students who are considering returning for another year can make appointments with Ms. Brown to complete course selections after Feb. 21st.

4. SPRING SESSION OF DRIVERS EDUCATION
Omni-Lateral Driver Education Centre Inc. is offering a Spring session of Driver’s Ed. The theory component will be done via e-learning and students can progress at their own pace through this component. Each student will receive 10 hours of actual driving instruction with driving times arranged at the student’s convenience. Successfully completing the course will reduce the period of Level One in graduated licensing from 12 months to 8 months as well has giving the graduate insurance benefits. The start date is February 20th and the cost is $840.00 after tax. Payments can be made in two separate installments. If interested, students should sign up and pick up a registration form in the main office. Please direct any inquiries you may have to the main office, not Student Services.

5. ROTARY CLUB’S “ADVENTURES IN CITIZENSHIP” PROGRAM
The Carleton Place Rotary Club is pleased to announce it will be sponsoring two students from this area to participate in the annual "Adventure in Citizenship" Program in Ottawa this year between May 26th and 29th. As part of this program, some 200 senior high school students from across Canada spend four days in Ottawa experiencing tours, lectures, discussions and social events designed to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Canadian citizenship. Through meetings with political leaders, senior officials, and others, they learn a great deal about the workings of our democratic institutions. Through meeting one another and having discussions among themselves, they learn to appreciate the diversity of Canada and privileges and responsibilities of citizenship. Interested students should reach out to Ms. Brown via email as soon as possible (before February 28th) for details about how to apply. The deadline for forwarding candidate information is March 8th. Students must be between the ages of 16-19 to participate. For more information about the program, please see the following link: https://rotaryottawa.com/page/welcome-to-the-rotary-adventure-in-citizenship-program

6. HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP FOR GRADE 11's
Every year, the Horatio Alger Association of Canada offers an opportunity to grade 11 university bound students with financial need to apply for one of 150 scholarships offered through their organization. Successful applicants can receive up to $10 000 in financial aid as well as personalized financial aid counselling, university selection advice, wellness information and other student supports. Successful candidates must demonstrate a dedication to their studies, financial need, and perseverance through adversity. If you are in grade 11 and interested in applying, please go to: https://horatioalger.ca/en/scholarships/ . The deadline for applying is March 15th, 2024.

7. GRAD PHOTOS AND GOWN ORDERS
Grad photos are scheduled for February 28th and 29th. The sitting fee for the photos is $35 and is payable with cash or debit. We will also be compiling our graduation gown sizing lists so that we order appropriately sized gowns for each grad for Commencement. Graduates will be measured for their gowns when they arrive for their grad photos. They will be expected to pay their gowning fee at this time too. The caps and gowns cost $25 and the gown payments MUST be paid with cash. We are once again ordering souvenir gowns so that students can keep their caps and gowns for photos off site after Commencement. Please direct questions related to grad photos and gowns to Kim Cantin in the main office. Commencement will be held on Thursday, June 27th in the morning. Specific details regarding Commencement will be forthcoming at a later date. In order to book your grad photo timeslot, please click on this link: www.PhotoVisions.ca/Almonte
More information will be provided by the main office but in preparation for your grad photos, the following advice has been shared: If wearing make-up or jewelry, consider a natural look with makeup application, simple jewelry (earrings and necklaces), and straightforward hairstyles which will stand the test of time and will allow for photos with a graduation cap. Hair should be neatly trimmed and, if you are male, consider a clean shaven face or well-groomed facial hair. A white collared shirt is highly recommended for all students, so if you do not have one, perhaps plan to borrow one for the day. The photographers can no longer provide shirts for grads to borrow. If you wear a necktie, a solid colour or simple pattern is recommended. Have clean and trimmed fingernails.
Photo retakes will take place on April 3rd, 2024.
If the costs of the sitting fee and/or cap and gown is a barrier to your student, please ask them to speak with Ms. Brown.

8. GRADE 12 SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR THE SKILLED TRADES
The Schulich Foundation of Canada introduced a new scholarship in Ontario last year and it is directed towards students entering the skilled trades with a focus on developing leadership qualities amongst those students. Each partner college will award five $20 000 scholarships for 1 year certificate programs and five $40000 scholarships for 2 year diploma programs. These scholarships are intended to support the costs of tuition, tools and living expenses. Our school must select and submit our nominees by March 15th 2024. If you are interested in being considered as a nominee, please speak with Mrs. Swrjeski or Mr. Dalgity about the nomination process.
