ADHS COURSE SELECTIONS

January 24-28, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians of ADHS Grade 8 students,

My name is Tracy Brown, and I am the Guidance Counsellor at ADHS.  I am in the midst of meeting with grade 8 classes to discuss the course selection process for next year.

When I meet with your student’s class, I will review Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements, learning pathways for students (workplace, college, and/or university), and the various special programs and learning opportunities offered by ADHS.  As part of this process, students will be given a Course Selection Worksheet listing course options and providing teacher recommendations for next year. If you have questions about pathway options, please direct them to your son/daughter’s teachers first but feel free to contact me in guidance to discuss your choices as well.

During the session, students will also set up accounts with our online scheduling program called myBlueprint and enter their tentative course selections.  (Login instructions are provided on the back of this page.)  Once you, as a family, have confirmed your child’s preferences, you can submit the choices through myBlueprint, and print off and sign the verification form. Since most students will be enrolling in the destreamed common grade 9 courses this year, there are only two areas where students have choice – Arts and Technology.  As a result, we would like encourage all students to submit their verification forms to their classroom teachers by Friday, Feb. 4th.  If you are unable to print off your student’s verification forms at home, students can come to see me or our Guidance Office Administrator, Cassandra Summers, in Student Services and we will print off the verification forms for you.

To assist with the process, I would like to direct you to review the updated 2022-2023 Course Calendar for Grade 9 students (link below). In it, you will find Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements, grade 9 course descriptions, flowcharts outlining grade 10-12 courses and information highlighting special secondary programs at ADHS.
