School Council

To all parents and guardians of students at Almonte and District High School,

As last year’s outgoing School Council Chair, I would like to welcome you to (or back to) Almonte DHS. I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to School Council and encourage you to consider using this venue to share your voice.

School Council is a wonderful way to keep abreast of what is happening at the school, but more importantly it has a very specific purpose.  “The purpose of school council is, through the active participation of parents, to improve pupil achievement and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents.”  (Ontario Regulation 612/00).

Through the active participation of parents/guardians over the past few years we have:

·         Organized guest speakers to present to parents and guardians on issues of interest to the school community.

·         Used school council funds to support clubs and various departments within the school.

·         Provided feedback to school administration on academic, extracirruclar, and safe schools policies.

·         Started a lending library in the school office, specifically for parents and guardians with a range of recommended books.

·         Maintained open communication between parents and the school through the many waves of the COVID-19 pandemic.

All of this happened as a direct result of the partnership between School Council, administration, staff and the School Board.  A dedicated School Council can really make a difference.

I had the pleasure of participating in School Council each year that my son went to Almonte DHS, and found it to be a great experience. Becoming a School Council member is a way to keep up-to-date on changes and events at the local, board and ministry level that will affect our school.

Almonte DHS School Council typically meets 6-8 times (weekday evenings) over the course of the school year, and meetings usually last 60-90 minutes, depending on the agenda items.

This is a great opportunity to be involved with life at ADHS.  I hope you consider it. Go Bolts!

Sincerely,

Chad Ziai
